Betfair

Wikipedia says:

Betfair Group plc is the world’s largest Internet betting exchange. The company’s headquarters are located in Hammersmith in West London, England. Since 9 March 2011 Betfair has operated its betting exchange under a Gibraltar licence. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange until it merged with Paddy Power to form Paddy Power Betfair on 2 February 2016.

Briefly:

  • Betfair is the accepted “go to” betting exchange. It has won a raft of industry awards and has revolutionised betting via it’s “Lay” betting.
  • It has the most customers, and therefore the most money flowing through it. Remember, you are betting against other punters, not Betfair itself..
  • Betfair also has a “Sportsbook” of it’s own – this IS an online bookmaker, where you ARE betting against Betfair itself. Don’t get confused!
  • Betfair charges commission at 5%. This is more than the other exchanges, but they can justify this as they are to the biggest, with the most liquidity.
